Rui was born and educated in Portugal, where he obtained a degree in law from the University of Lisbon, following a 5 year course.
Shortly after coming to Jersey, he joined Ogier & Le Cornu (as it then was), where he worked in various capacities for 14 years.
During that period he obtained an honours degree (LLB) from London University and passed the local legal professional examinations, which he completed in 1998. He became a Jersey solicitor in May 1998 and was called to the Jersey Bar in August of the same year.
As a Jersey advocate, Rui has had extensive experience in the local Courts, from the Magistrate’s Court to the Court of Appeal. He has also appeared in the Privy Council, the ultimate appellate court for the Channel Islands.
While enjoying his time, and gaining considerable experience in several areas of the law, in a large firm, he became aware that there was space in the market for a small legal firm, where his legal and linguistic skills could be put to effective use.
As a result, in 2003 he formed a new firm, which has now become Tremoceiro Advocates.
Rui is bilingual (Portuguese and English) and has a good working knowledge of French.
